Walks Sunday March 26th 2023

Posted on: Sat 25th March 4:24pm
Two walks on Sunday folks, so hopefully something to suit all.
Remember clocks go forward on Saturday night so don't be turning up an hour late for your appointment.
Philip is taking a B grade walk from Luke's bridge to Benwisken. This entails a climb to over 500m. Duration of no less than 4 hours with breaks. Bearing in mind the amount of recent rainfall, the terrain could be pretty dam wet, so gaiters recommended plus please do come adequately kitted out with rain gear, lunch etc. Although the weather looks pretty good that day. We will be walking from Benwisken back to cars again, unless you bring a parachute.
Meet Crescent, Boyle at 10am, or Henry's Bar and restaurant on N15 towards Grange at 11am. Unfortunately they are now closed, so no chips etc. Please don't leave the crown jewels in your car. Just in case. For details, ask Philip 086 335 3000.
Clare will take the second walk. Up to Cnoc na Si....Hill of the fairies. With lovely views from the top, it is the location of one of Ireland's largest Bronze Age ringforts and is rich in megalithic history, with evidence of dwelling sites and two cairns. As Sean Montcrieff might say " I bet you didn't know that now." Before that is a visit to the nearby Court Abbey, a 15th century Franciscan Friary. So now, there is plenty of culture here. This is a C walk, suitable for all. Meet Crescent, Boyle at 11:30, or Aurivo Creamery on the N17 at Achonry, midday.
NB Clare will meet people at Aurivo, and won't be at the Crescent. So don't hang around at the Crescent for her. Just meet up with other walkers if they are there.
